My Story
While killer whales are highly versatile, adaptive and some of the most opportunistic predators on the globe, climate change does not leave them unaffected. Each killer whale population has its own prey and hunting culture, and each get affected in their own ways.
Along the Norwegian coast, the herring stock has continuously moved northwards over the past 30 years, with the orcas moving along. Off the coast of British Columbia, a resident population is heavily affected by the strong decrease of Chinook salmon. In Alaska and Canada, orcas move into areas formerly covered by ice, posing problems for belugas and narwhales that use the areas as their breeding grounds.
