FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW MUCH DOES SKANA DONATE?

Skana donates all profits to scientific research. Each painting you buy immediately contributes to research. We donate directly to the projects we support, so there is no middle man taking an unnecessary cut or causing any administration costs.

In case of the vary rare event that we may provide discounts, the donation part is not decreased. Instead, we assume the cost for the materials, and continue to donate the same amount to scientific projects. That's because we really care.

WHAT PROJECTS DOES SKANA DONATE TO?

Skana donates exclusively to scientific research projects. We believe that scientific research is key to understand and mitigate human impact. Each painting represents a donation large enough to contribute to something essential, such as an underwater camera, a drone or maybe simply the gas for the research boat. Small things can have a big and concrete impact. Currently, Skana contributes to the organization Whales of Vestmannaeyjar ("WhaVe") and its main project, the Icelandic Orca Project.

DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?

Yes we do! We apply the following charges that will appear during your check-out:

  • CHF10 for shipments to Switzerland and the European Union, insured and tracked.

  • CHF25 for shipments to Norway and Iceland, insured and tracked.

  • CHF50 for shipments to the rest of the world, insured and tracked. We cannot send paintings larger than 50x40 to the rest of the world due to shipping restrictions.

Please note that some countries may apply import restrictions, for which Skana is not responsible. This does not apply to EU countries as we can ship from an EU country.

Upon shipment, Skana will send you a tracking code. Please contact us in case you encounter any difficulties.

I AM INTERESTED IN THE FRAMES. HOW DO YOU FRAME CANVAS PAINTINGS?

Each canvas painting is spanned on wood. The painting will be attached to the frame through small screws attached to the wood on which the painting is spanned. It is therefore possible to remove the frame if you would ever like to replace the frame, or even use the frame on another painting.
From the front, the frames create a dramatic effect as it will look as if the canvas painting is floating within the frame with a few millimeters between the frame and the canvas.
The sides of all canvas paintings are painted in line with the subject of the painting, so that no white edges are visible when framed.
The frames are made of high quality wood, but as with all wood, they are sensitive to humidity. Therefore, please keep the paintings and their frames in a dry environment.

CAN I RETURN A PAINTING?

Why would you want to do that? Just joking, of course. We all make bad decisions sometimes!
You can return a painting within 14 days after the confirmation of receipt. Skana will refund you the purchase price of the painting, but cannot refund shipping or framing costs. Skana donates the proceeds of each sale after these 14 days expired. Hence, we cannot refund you your purchase after this period. Returns are only accepted upon receiving undamaged goods and we therefore suggest to re-use the original packaging material. We recommend using insured and tracked shipment methods. In case your painting arrived damaged, please contact us so we can guide you through the insurance steps.

WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?

For each painting, we indicate what materials were used. We typically paint with oil or acrylic paint on standard canvas or wood.
In case you would like to frame the painting yourself, it may be good to know that each spanned painting is approximately 2cm thick.
